The Intersection of Substance Use and Brain Injury

Substance misuse is a risk factor for acquiring a brain injury, and a brain injury may be a risk factor for developing substance misuse. Individuals with a history of substance misuse and who are under the influence at the time of injury tend to have more medical complications. This presentation will discuss the relationship between substance misuse and brain injury, the importance of appropriate identification and treatment, and the complexities of providing rehabilitation to persons with brain injury and co-occurring substance misuse.
